Digital Camera Glossary - Aperture

An adjustable piece of equipment inside a camera that lies between the lens and shutter. Light comes through the lens, gets funneled through the aperture that has been selected, and then recorded by the image sensor. The smaller the aperture opening, the less light strikes the sensor.
